Photo 'proves Taylor Swift to perform in Carlisle next year'

Taylor Swift has been spotted in Cumbria, fuelling excited rumours the billionaire pop star is planning a gig at Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United.

A photograph of the star’s private jet travelling over the city has gone viral since it appeared on social media at the weekend, with thousands of “Swifties” – the name given to fans of Taylor Swift – sharing and liking the post.

It’s thought Taylor may have been with her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, on a reconnaissance mission ahead of a spectacular show in the Border City next year.

Her recent sell-out Eras Tour took in more than 149 shows in five continents, netting over $1 billion and changing the world as we know it.

However the nearest it came to Cumbria was when she performed at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, more than 100 miles away.

The photograph was taken on Saturday by Taylor superfan Fran5X and posted on Instagram with the comment “OMG Tay over Carlisle”.

The post was immediately seized on by Swifties as evidence that the US-born star, 34, is about to perform in the city.

One wrote: “Tay in Carlisle would be slay,” and there were many, many more comments along the same lines.

Some pointed out that in 2007 Elton John performed to more than 6,000 at Brunton Park, which is owned by America-based tycoon Tom Piatak, who may or may not know Taylor Swift.

Others warned that demand for tickets could see the venue switched to Bitts Park – although, ironically, it is very close to the Swifts golf course, which has the same name as Taylor Swift.

Last night aviation experts tried to pour cold water on the claims, claiming the aircraft in question was in fact a British Airways 787 en route to New York.

Other “Tay-Deniers” pointed out that Taylor Swift was at Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium at the weekend, watching Travis Kelce play against the Las Vegas Raiders.

However a spokesman for Carlisle United refused to rule out the rumours. “If Taylor Swift wants to perform at Brunton Park then we will certainly do what we can to make it possible.”

Taylor Swift has been approached for comment, as has Swifts Golf Course.
